Last year I was introduced to a band called Veils a four piece from Cornwall, they were opening the last four dates on ‘The Tangled Tour’ a showcase of six bands all on ‘Tangled Talk Records‘ home to Bastions, Battle For Paris & The Long Haul. I was very impressed with the bands demo and a mere 3 months later the band have realised there debut release ‘Clarity’. The record tears through 5 tracks that really leave a lasting impression and make you keep coming back for more. The band bring a hard crushing sound I’d associate with UK Hardcore, while using lots of elements of melodic hardcore and screamo.
It’s vocalists Chlo Edwards catchy and well written lyrics that really make this a great record. Its moments like “Just remember to feel the warmth of the sun. Just remember to feel the air in your lungs.” in the opening track ‘Standing Alone (Isolation)’ that really bring out the pure emotion, that this band manage to convey so well. The melodic emotional side of the band is very apparent through out but the intensity of the record is unquestionable. The best example of this is in the track ‘Stronghold (Destruction)’, opening without hesitation into a fury of onslaught and remaining relentlessly heavy through out, It’s the shortest on the record clocking in at under the two minute mark, it really shows what this band are capable of.
Veils have just finished a UK tour with ‘The Long Haul‘ and both bands hit Europe for a tour this April. I think the best way to fully understand the intensity of what Veils have to offer is to buy this record, ‘Clarity’ is out now via ‘Tangled Talk Records‘.
